I am starting to think that given our recent history, the team comes out with a mentality to avoid conceding in the first half hour rather than looking to score first. The safety first approach inevitably leads to pressure piling on us.

Recently we have done well to score early in games but we rarely come out with the intent we showed in the second half.

i wouldnt read too much into the pattern of the team because there isn't really one

3 points and a 1 goal winning margin against relegation fodder from a team containing most of our top players. Hardly inspiring/encouraging with the FA Cup this weekend nor in the prospects of seeing the team avoid burn out this month.

With Ramsey back I can't see Cazorla spending too much more time in midfield.

When he Aaron is back up and running we'll go back to Santi and CAM with Ozil and Alexis either side i think.

Nah, Santi will keep his place. Aaron will just slot in alongside him.

Cazorla stays deep and doesn't leave Coquelin on his own. I think that has been important. Would rather Ramsey get the free role to add some extra running power in midfield and support Giroud.

Think Cazorla's competition is with Wilshere.

He was off in the first 20 minutes or so, but so was the entire team.
Santi looked like Arteta for most of the game, but with 10 times the talent.

Great game from Bellerin, very good to see. Decent from Coq (despite the horrible mistake in the first half),
Good game for Gibbs (his part in the goal massively overplayed here - he had to cover the other player. This one's on Kos,
and, frankly, a brilliant strike). But who am I kidding? "Gibbs was/is shit". 2 assists? nah.

So nice to see Alexis get the monkey off his back. Business as usual from now? Ozil as well. Bit of patience. These guys
are going to play teams off the park.

Ref mistake was one of the worst. Should have been 1:0 and 10 players for the entire second half, which was as one sided as it gets even without the goal and sending off. This should really have ended 5:0.

Why are we so shit in the first 30 minutes lately? it looked so familiar it actually reassured me 🙂 .

Sad for Gab. Oh, well. I guess his introduction period is now complete.

Thinking back to the Monaco game - we started that attacking quite brightly, then they got a foothold and once they scored we panicked.
Seems the antidote to that for the moment is to go into our shell from the start of games, avoid over committing to attack, absorb pressure and gradually work our way into the game.
Not sure it's a strategy as such, think maybe it's more of a reaction to the fear of conceding that first goal.
Could also be that when Santi curbs his natural desire to get forward we cannot not link well enough between defence and attack?

anyone think maybe its the temperature that causes some of these problems? i dont know how cold it is in england, but its got to be colder than someplace like spain?
