His link-up play has improved a lot, he was great today. Did well almost everything he touched. Such a complete forward when on song.

His build up play improved a lot last season, and this season the signs are that he has improved on his finishing. Needs to maintain it for a while longer to convince he can stay this prolific, but in his last 16 appearances (10 starts) he has 11 goals. If he can end the season with 15 league goals or 20 in all comps that'll be very good considering he was out for 3 months. Maybe players can improve after 27. Some of our players have been around for a while but here's a lot of potential there. Staying fit is the main obstacle.

Imagine if we actually weren't that shit at the start of the season, didn't lose 5 of the first 6 games or something, Giroud wasn't injured and were competing with Chelsea for the first place while he would be on 16 goals by now.

Fuck the start of the season, honestly.

He IS when the game suits him as it did today, but he becomes ineffective any time he's isolated from his close support as seen v Spuds.
As a goal scorer he relies upon the quality of opportunities created by Wengerball so that her can score from his low % of shots on target of late.

true anzac. he still needs upgrading despite how much he has improved to his credit. back to goal, there are few better when he has midfielders running off him. if he gets isolated our attacking game implodes. we could do with a striker that does what he does, but also has a few more strings to his bow when facing goal.

IMO Giroud is better suited to games like today when we can be at our best pomp and flat track bullies,
but against our peers Welbeck's pace and work rate is more effective in that he can put pressure on the opposition backline as seen v ManU.
That said most of the top flight CF's have better passing % and shots per game than Giroud.
I suspect that Greedy was the template lone CF AW wanted.

Giroud has goals against United, City and Liverpool this season. Welbecks goals apart from the United one have come against Gala, WHU and relegation strugglers. Welbecks assists have also come against poorer opposition. The goal against United, in a game where he had been very poor before the goal, is the only argument for Welbeck vs the top sides. If anything Welbeck should be used against the weaker teams when Giroud needs a rest. Or just play him wide.

His build up play was always good. The only time it went to shit was when there weren't any runners playing off him. He was very good in his first season linking up with Podolski and Walcott. No surprise he's looked good again when players are doing the running for him. He only looked really shite last season when there was no movement beyond him.

He's a massive asset when playing like this, can hoof it up to him or play off the midfielders.

He's a quality player and while not as good as Aguero, definitely IMO, one of the most consistent finishers in this league. Our problem at the moment comes from the others around him not being consistent enough in making defining contributions in tight games should the big man have an off day. However, I expect this will be partially remedied by Sanchez being more used to the PL and better able to pace himself next season.

We'd not have scored that goal v ManU with Giroud at CF.
We won A v Citeh from 2 set pieces, whereas we scored A v ManU in open play.
IMO the difference is essentially that Welbeck has the pace to go with the work rate.
