The last time #Arsenal played a Premier League match without a goal or an assist from Mesut Ozil was Saturday 19 September (14 weeks ago).

That's not fair at all really, Cesc was a great CM for us (think Milan away in 07-08). It's only after he started playing the '10' with us, and then Barca, that he's looked so ineffective playing there.

And even then, it's hard to seperate that from whether Cesc might, a la Rooney, be burned out prematurely after playing so much, so early.

He was a great CM for about half a season in 07/08. It's not a coincidence that Wenger moved him from that position though; he lost his ability to control a midfield long before we turned him into a #10. It was just a way to make use of the one skill he had that was arguably the best in the world.

He had a terrific game against Milan, but much like Flamini that season he tailed off past Christmas and didn't do a whole lot aside from that game. It's been the story of his career ever since, the occasional season aside.

I think being burned out prematurely is a valid point though. I've seen it happen to an awful lot of youngsters who play too much football in their teens. Some of them like Messi and Totti just keep on trucking. Others tail off right when they hit their peak years. It looks like Cesc belongs to the latter group.

It is hard to talk or compare anyone to Cesc currently, since everyone hates him here (including me). It is also always unfair to compare a player to an ex player because memories are fresher for Ozil. Maybe we should just move on and enjoy Ozil, hope he stays here till he retires. He genuinely sounds happy here.

For what it's worth, I think Cesc is better as a '10' as well. For the sake of comparison with Ozil though, you'd have to note that Fabregas played a different position for 4-5 years so comparisons are going to be skewed somewhat (statistical output for example will be ambiguous).

Personally don't think there is much to choose between the two, both are phenomenal players and possess the ability to make others look better than they are.

You're misinterpreting me, the meaning of the statement was that I think Cesc plays better at '10' than he does at CM, not that I believe Cesc is a superior player at that position than Ozil. Sorry if that was unclear

It's a tough one. Fabregas was world class for us. Top 5 players we've had under Wenger. Ozil is also in the top 5 in my opinion.

Never mind Pires and Campbell, and I know we all hate him now, but Van Persie still had a greater overall influence than either Ozil or Sanchez have for Arsenal thus far. Plenty of time for them to change that though
