here's the thing though...
... he so fokking good at what he does that i don't really care if he doesn't score too many goals. he just needs to have three guys who can score around him. i always say, we are not getting the ROI on Ozil because we are messing around with Giroud, Walcott and Ox in front of him. if we bring in another elite forward, Ozil's numbers will leave his enemies throwing up their lunch

i was just imaging what ozil could have done with pre-leg break eduardo. his movement and finishing was sublime.

Vardy is scoring every week for a team that battled relegation last season, hardly surprising he picked up the award.

I don't have a problem with Vardy getting the player of the month award over Özil - got to figure that if Özil maintains his current form he's a serious contender for player of the season.

If we win the league, then I reckon Özil has had a stellar season. After that, I don't much care for individual awards.

Agreed - I can't think of a player - past or present - that's similar to him. He's got a few traits like his first touch or whatever but the combined package is so unique.

The criticism of Ozil I have is this - when you're one of the most talented players in the squad, you become a leader by that alone. So if I'm on the same team as you and you shy out of challenges and blocks, you make me more inclined to do the same. I think that's a part of why we look so tame when were playing poorly.

Don't buy that since us being tame when we're playing poorly pre-dates the signing of Ozil.

the criticisms of ozil are pretty flimsy at this point.

he covers almost as much ground as any other player in the squad. hes a fantastic athlete, so when he runs, he looks a tad more graceful than someone like flamini, who looks like an abused dog who was left out in the rain.

ozil isnt going to defend like coquelin, but he shouldnt be asked to do that. hes done plenty of tracking back this season and his body language, which should have never been an issue, still isnt an issue. he has arguably the best final ball in europe. if we had a world class striker like ibra, his talents would be magnified even more.

It is always the case with such monthly awards, people like to give it to a good story. Just look at La Liga. No Barcelona player has ever won a La Liga player of the month award since its inception, not even when Messi scored like 15 goals a month.

Off topic, but I was looking at a compilation of Di Maria this season, and both Cavani and Ibra seemed to be missing shit loads of chances, especially the former (though they both have a healthy number of goals scored so far).

Could be a playmaker compilation thing, because I remember seeing Cesc compilations which made RvP look awful.

The best striker miss the most chances because the best striker take the most chances.
