He has gone up a level individually I feel. He had some incredible quality around him at Madrid. When he puts the work rate in, he makes others better. Wenger it seems is really pushing him to add goals to his game. He is attempting more shots and looks to have developed a hunger.

Pretty sure the second part was fake, the stat said something about overtaking Riquelme who was never 1st in Europe. There's also little chance he's already overtaken the likes of Xavi or probably even Henry.

Also I've seen the stats a lot of times but how absurd is that Messi has the most assists to go with the roughly 2,000 goals he scored in that period.

The only reliable stats I can find is the total amount of assists in the past 5 years which is a more accurate comparison. Not including this season though as it is accurate till Jun 2015.

Transfermarkt track assists, he's behind Messi, who's on around 190, and behind Snake with 3-4 assists. His official website have got them right.

I could watch Özil play football all day, every day.
I was pissed off after his first half at Watford because he was mainly strolling around. He is so damn important for us that when he is subpar, then our whole attack looks off.
I've watched most of Ozil's games throughout his career, and I can confidently say that he is now playing his best football ever. He is stronger than ever, more decisive in front of goal than ever, and he works harder defensively than ever before.

I don't think it was a particularly great finish when Giroud was wrongly called for a foul, but Özil confidently finishing with his weaker foot was glorious to see. Was the same v Bayern early in the first half. He really, really needed that first goal of the season against Man U.

By the way is it just me or doesn't an assist almost every 3 games feel a bit low to be the all time best ratio in the PL. Especially for supreme playmakers like Bergy and Pires being in teams with the likes of Henry banging them in?

Yeah you'd expect it to be similar to the best goal scorers records. Something to consider when judging the contribution of assisters in future.

It's easily explained by the fact that there is usually one striker and a number of attacking midfielders on the pitch.

Also found it a bit low, but I guess 14 league assists a season (that's what 2.71 means in league games only) is not something you can do for an entire career (even if we see the odd 20 assist year).

(I'm not saying it doesn't help, it just feels a bit strange still. And strikers - think Henry, Dennis, but even Giroud and Feo - they do assist quite a bit. And pure 10's, like Ozil, are as focused on the final ball as strikers are in getting it into the net, or sort of).

Depends. Sideways can count as rolling it across the box for a tap in. Like Ozil's first assist for us against Sunderland.
