This is a simplified version of what happens. Ozil is a forward NOT a midfielder. Therefore, 1 forward + 2 midfielders vs 3 midfielders = Victory to 3 midfielders. Ozil is then consequently starved off the ball, hence the usual Ozil is AWOL claims, because his 2 midfield partners almost always lose to 3 midfielders.
Ozil is one-of-a-kind in today's game. There is literally nobody like him at the top level. He's an AM who plays nothing like an AM, he moves into every space except AM. That's what makes him so great, and what makes him such a weakness at the same time.
