Doesn't Özil have 2 years left on his contract this summer anyway? Article says 1 year, which I think is incorrect, and it makes a big difference.

He's got two years left as far as I know.

As for whether he's staying or going... I don't really care anymore. We're not winning anything with him and Sanchez here next year and we'll be rougly the same without them. I'm sure we will sign someone else who can temporarily cover for the loss in quality. That's usually how it goes. We've reached a point where it doesn't matter what players we have becasue we'll only make signings to maintain a certain level of performance.

Hate to be pessimistic, but if his head is turned or has dropped, he has priors for not performing well. After he missed that penalty against Bayern last year he basically walked around the pitch scowling. Even turbo-charged Alexis looks less up for things these days, with how everything's going.

Those quotes don't look out of the ordinary though, so fingers crossed everything's fine.

You can't blame him for wanting out. He'll be 28 in October and he's in his prime. He'll want to win a Champions League and Premier League titles whilst he's still playing at top level. He probably realizes he can't do this under Wenger. It took him two years.

You could hardly blame our top players for questions whether they want to remain. They both signed and we have stood still since in effect, even with the follow up signings of Sanchez and Cech respectively. Now they will need to go through up rebuilding certain elements (santi, mert) as well as improve on Walcott, Ox, Giroud.

As always we remain a merry-go-round for top players who don't see a future here into their prime years.
