Nirvana, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam were clearly the cream of the crop. Known universally this is.

I'm with Rex on this. Pearl Jam were an excellent band at their peak, it just became 'cooler' to prefer Nirvana, Soundgarden etc. Personally I was equally able to appreciate each on its own merits. The whole 'grunge' label was so meaningless anyway. I always enjoyed STP's music as well, particularly the first two albums. Just a pity that Weiland was another of that generation that couldn't seem to manage their substance use. RIP.

Preferring Soundgarden and STP wasn't some sort of academic decision, I was fourteen or so at the time and just listened to the bands I liked more.

By the time Pearl Jam branched out more I was over the sound and mostly listening to Brit-pop.

Since those bands all knew each other and grew up together, the grunge label sort of made sense for them and projects like Mudhoney, Temple of the Dog, Mother Love Bone etc. It was lumping Nirvana in there that always seemed a bit out of place.

Good job, Sanders! You just showed the photo of someone else's kid on cable TV and gave her name! Do you even news?

Sanders apologized but said he was doing this on live TV, and continued to show the camera photos of unidentified – and wholly innocent – children.

As Sanders finally walks out of the bathroom, a member of the news team can be heard saying: "Stop showing pictures."

That is such good journalism. 😆

I really admire the part where he finds some shredded paper in a bin, and announces that although it's shredded, the FBI must have deemed it unimportant because shredded paper can be painstakingly put back together.

Don't forget the part where he spots some trash on a table after spending a minute on the floor describing a printer, holds it up and declares: "Here's just some mixed nuts with peanuts".

At some point (say, somewhere in-between the analysis of the shredded paper and the toy that Sanders mispronounces three times) even the guy who's holding the camera must have asked himself what the hell he was doing there. Allegedly FBI hadn't even cleared the scene by the time the news networks turned it into MTV Cribs.

It's a touchstone of news satire to exaggeratedly juxtapose the strange tonal variations of TV journalism—from solemnity to fake conviviality—with absurd and nihilistic content, but a newsman investigating a small pile of nuts with the demeanour of a gumshoe Holocaust documentarian is beyond extreme.

No wonder police in the US shoot people all the time.
In the UK, they just have to put up some yellow tape and nobody crosses that line.

I thought the whole thing was eerily reminiscent of the movie 'Nightcrawler' but with less convincing journalists.

It's still a year away and trump has called for banning Muslims into America. Wonder how long before he calls for expulsion of Muslims.

Bit hard to argue that Trump declaring stuff like that isn't white supremacism slowly mainstreaming. It'll be interesting to see where the "sensible" politicians end up after this campaign is over next year—looking at more border authoritarianism I suspect.

This cunt and his ideas being so prominent and visible in the media is a very serious issue, even if he himself isn't. One of the oldest tricks in the book, push the boundaries by suggesting something extreme only to have another slightly less extreme proposal seem moderate and agreeable in comparison.

Trump is at what just under 30% in the polls. Thats for the Republicans who have about 42% of the popular vote. So about 12% of people support him, very similar to the sort of numbers that vote for UKIP and the like. The 2 party system in America has given him far too much of a voice.
