I think this is an important point too. Liverpool released the figure because they tried to act insulted. We had in fact triggered a legal clause in Suarez's contract. None of that should have mattered.
I'd be interested to know how common this type of stuff is (maybe Speedy has some insight?) but it wouldn't surprise me if those type of bids were more frequent than people thought. Not even Daniel Levy will pay more than he's legally required to in order to sign a player.
