I had no idea about Sterling's father.
Sounds like Davies is pretty much spot on in his assessment though. I think football clubs, and we as fans, tend to forget how young some of these guys are sometimes. Sterling's PR has been a bit shit, but they need to keep in mind that he's a 20 year old boy. There's very little loyalty in the modern game, and that's just the way it is. Liverpool have effectively tried to bully Sterling into signing a new long-term deal that finally sees him getting the kind of money he's worth, because he was on a shit contract to begin with.
... and meanwhile the club is falling apart around him. Of course he doesn't want to sign. He wants the wages he's entitled to without having to commit his future to that shithole. Liverpool have this annoying tendency to hang everyone out to dry as soon as they're towing the party line, and that's why no one else likes them. You would never hear Wenger speak about one of his players the way Rodgers have spoken about Sterling this year. It's like a cult with them; you're either in or you're out. I was watching that scientology documentary a while back, Going Clear, and the similarities between the church of Scientology and Liverpool Football Club are striking.
