Could anyone please tell me what Liverpools problem is?
1: Why does it seem like their supporters are the most outraged, paranoid and self-pitying fans of any club? Is it due to the city's economic development over the last 40 years? Is it some south/north divide? Is it because the success they had in the 70's and 80's made them proud and then subsequently bitter and angry? Is tribalism especially strong in the kop?
2: What is it that the justice for the 96 campaign is campaigning for? Genuine question, as it's been over 20 years and most people now agree that the coverage from some parts of the media and the handling by the government was poor. Are they looking for a grand public apology by the police and the prime minister, damages, respect? Has it become a self-perpetuating thing now, where some people simply are attached to the cause for life, either by virtue of being full-time employed by the cause or seeing it as their "mission" or "reason for being"?
I don't mean to be disrespectful (and I'm not by my own standards, but apparently it's hard to know where the line is drawn) so sorry in advance for anyone finding this post offensive. Hillsborough was a massive tragedy which should not be forgotten, it changed football forever, but this outrage doesn't seem to be about Hillsborough at all. It's tribalism and it's people having an excuse for behaving outrageously, and therefore in the end it is about the reasons for the underlying anger.
