Kenny Dalglish has blasted the fixture scheduling which will see his Liverpool side play two games in just 48 hours.

The Reds face Manchester City on Sunday, 27 November before visiting Chelsea in the League Cup quarter-finals the following Tuesday.

"It is disgraceful in this day and age that players are being asked to play a league game and then a quarter-final just 48 hours later," he said.

"If the Football League want to devalue their own competition it's up to them."

Moving the Chelsea encounter to the Wednesday would cause problems for police in London as Tottenham host PAOK Salonika in the Europa League that night.

However, Dalglish believes the Football League should have looked at other possibilities.

"It's understandable with the Spurs v PAOK Salonika match and the TUC rally that the Met Police have said that our game cannot be played on the Wednesday," Dalglish told liverpoolfc.tv.

"But it's surely the duty of the football authorities to think of other solutions which consider the welfare of the players? This clearly hasn't happened."

After appeals to have the match rearranged were refused, Dalglish has taken the unprecedented step to warn off fans from making the trip to Stamford Bridge for the Chelsea encounter as he may field a youth team.

He added: "When we ask the Football League to move our game to a later date, we're told it's impossible. Where's the logic in that?

"The one thing I will say to our fans is to think carefully before buying tickets for the League Cup game.

"We do not want them spending their money and then we decide there is no other option but to use only young players in the tie.

"They [the Football League] shouldn't then be upset if people use these games to help in the development of young players."

Kenny whinging in the media again. The tough fixture list (league cup and premier league) is finally getting to him, this is why you build a squad of players Dalglish..

I fully expect Chelsea to smash them 6 ways from Sunday come the League Cup game.

There's something so fundamentally miserable about Kenny.
He suits Liverpool in their current incarnation though.

It is a disgrace though that any team has to play two official matches within 48 hours. You can´t realistically think that ANY player will be able to perform at the highest level with such a short rest.

It is one thing that fans call the CC a Mickey Mouse competition, but this is the FA saying the same thing. That IS a disgrace.

He's an awful manager but he sort of has a point here. Fixture congestion is one of the reasons why English clubs suffer more injuries than any others. And when they decide to field the reserves they get criticised for it.

It's true that there's a ridiculously short time between the fixtures.
I'd like to hear the official explanation as to why it's impossible to move the game.
I'm not overly upset that Liverpool are being afflicted in this way, they don't have CL to contend with so if this knocks them even more out of their stride I won't complain.

It is just poor planning from the FA. If you are ok with this, then you can´t really complain when we are on the receiving end right? I know I will, so I´m with Dalglish on this one.

Sure we can complain if it happens to us and you know we will.
It's unlikely we're going to get through the whole season without a pile up of fixtures at some stage.

For the CC and FA Cup early rounds this season I think Wenger will be resolute in playing just the young players, and others who are not getting regular first team football.
Rightly or wrongly he counts the fact that we seriously went for four competitions as contributing to our downfall last season.

doesn't this happen every holiday season in the premier league moreover? at least with this one you can reasonably expect heavy rotation. the league is a lot more important and we play QPR on a saturday and Fulham the monday. that's fucked up, not this shit.

Last season we played eight games in november and nine in january; that's proper fixture congestion.

You do argue that football was very different when Wenger was winning us titles, don't you? I wasn't born/ was a child when Daglish was winning titles for Liverpool but English football was even more different then, wasn't it Biggus? 🙂

If you believe Wenger has failed to reinvent himself, Daglish has the same affliction, may be a worse form of it.

Certainly that may be, both men face huge challenges.
But nobody knows what will happen yet as the season is not over.

I think Kenny is of the past, I believe we'll finish ahead of Liverpool now.
I didn't think so after our August September run but looking back August could be completely written off in terms of assessing what to expect from our team.

Both actually. The change in how clubs are run is obvious but even the English League is very different now with the influx of players from the continent.

The idea behind assembling the kind of team that Daglish was trying to over the summer could have worked earlier but technical levels at the top clubs have improved massively which is why Suarez stands out over everyone else at Liverpool, not in a way that Van Persie does here but even technically you feel they are lacking something.

Fitness and training methods have improved, but I'd dispute that British players had poor technique levels in the 70's & 80's.
Liverpool sides of English/Irish/Scots dominated Europe at the time, the decline of technical levels in English players began only after Italia 90 with the increasing importation of foreigners and the appointment of the original Turnip Graham Taylor as England manager.
