Fabregas was an era-defining player. Whatever you think about the era, with hindsight or otherwise, is not really the point. He should have stayed because we should have been able to keep him.

Wenger is categorically the one to blame. He was wrong a lot in the second decade, and appealing to Cesc's emotions rather than his ambition was an awful strategy. Dunno why it had to go down like this, it really shouldn't have, but here we are.

We’ve been in the same shambles for 12 years. Cesc, RVP, Alexis, etc. All superstar players who looked around and said I can’t work in these conditions. I aspire to do something more. And more will go down that path as long as we don’t get our act together. And if it makes some fans feel better to call them c-word and Judas, fine, but don’t also forget to looks at the root causes for this revolving door

At least RVP still managed to be as good at least for a season after he left. Cesc was a nothing at Barca and managed one decent season at Chelsea after he left Arsenal. Sure Wenger got a lot wrong but he made Cesc a better player and Cesc never reached his potential due to leaving Arsenal. Alexis has been a complete joke since he left.

Wenger definitely made all these guys better than they would have been otherwise.

Cesc at least gave something to this club and probably deserved something better than Arsenal at the time he left. van Persie by contrast literally had 18 good months, after a solid decade of injuries and letdowns where Wenger and his unshaking belief was the sole reason he still had a career instead of being the Dutch Roque Santa Cruz, and he repaid us by immediately forcing his way out and winning the league for Manchester United. In a world of massive snakes he's the 80 ft python that they have to send a building-sized boa named Betty after with a camera glued onto its head in Boa vs Python.

Yeah, Cesc gave plenty to the club for years. Alexis too, even in leaving he actually did us a favour by ruining United's wagebill. RVP is in a league of his own for fucking off to Fungus and Scholeshy and Giggsheh, even worse than Adebayor. Shouldn't be called a snake it's insulting to the animal.

Cesc ended up with 3 league winners medals after leaving us. He played 30 games a season for Barca and Chelsea. The idea that he flopped is not quite right, we just didn't want to pay attention. His game was better suited for the PL and it showed when he went to Chelsea. We should have done everything to bring him back.

You don't have to be a great player to win league trophies. Of course he was really good, but he didn't live up to the promise he showed for us. And yeah, we should definitely have picked him up when we had the option.

The defence was really chaotic, but I still haven't found it as entertaining to watch us ever since. Both Hleb, Fabregas, Flamini and Rosicky (while fit) were great, and we had Adebayor, Eduardo and some times van Persie as striker options. Eduardo had really started to tear up the league when he got injured. If I remember correctly that was Clichy's one great season for us as well, I think he and Sagna both got into the Premier League team of the year. We'd have won if we had a better keeper or if Eduardo didn't become a victim of fucking Taylor. Could've done great things in CL as well if Bendtner didn't save Fabregas's shot or Hleb got that stonewall penalty.

There's a billion stonewall penos we been denied in the CL it's so messed up. I still remember Theo being denied a stonewaller against Bayern who went on to thrash us.

I remember the game which Sanogo started and where we won a penalty (I think in the 11th or 12th minute) which Ozil (only Wenger knows why he was taking them) hit straight at Neuer and then we didn't have a sniff the rest of the game. Oh for those days again where we played in the Champions League.

There's gotta be some room between being a flop and being a great player, though I personally would take some exception to the idea that he wasn't great. He ran the midfield for title-winning teams, at times, and at others he played a supporting role, but he was a big part of those wins. The idea that he was past it, or that he lost it after he left us, is based on our perceptions of the kind of player he was.

He managed to become the kind of player that wins league titles. Few get that privilege, and it's hard to say he would have managed it with us.

Exactly. He was ok after leaving us and he got his medals but he wasn't as good a player.

It’s a wild narrative. The first half of his first season for Chelsea was off the chains. He had 3 goals and 19 assists. I think ₁₅ of those were before the new year. And he also had a a really good season for Barcelona while playing that weird floating attacking role. The kid was such an incredible footballer best footballer we’ve had post invincibles. Him then, Sanchez and RVP.

Kluivert wasn't so bad either, connected together so well. Add the threat of Overmars and Bergkamp can really do his magic.

Kluivert was just one shade off Henry talent-wise I reckon. Titi was the champagne standard but there were some remarkable similarities between the two. I loved watching him play with Rivaldo around 01-02. Then he fell off a cliff just when he was about to enter his prime and basically never had a good game again. It still makes me sad to think about.

Eboue, Denilson Szcenzy, Wilshere (good player, but not focused), Song, Arshavin (again, talented, but serious?), etc.
