Scathing indictment of doctors in the UK that article.
Yea but it's not from a doctor. Everyone you chat to thinks they've been let down by a doctor. Usually they haven't. You often just have 2 options both which involve risk. So if it goes bad people think the doctor made the wrong choice while with the information available at the time they've often made the right choice. They've just landed on the unlucky side of the odds.
It sounds like he showed signs of infection. Used a broad spectrum antibiotic to treat it that worked then the skin ripped another 3 bugs got in and grew. Opening him up to check what bugs are in there comes with massive risk of more bugs getting in there. So it's a trade off. Then eventually you open it and clean out get away with it and he's gonna think you should have done that sooner. Maybe if they opened it sooner a bad infection gets in and he looses his leg.
It's hard to know but you can't really take his word for it that he's been given the wrong treatment.
