Nah mate. I remember Lauren very fondly. The guy was not to be messed with, was solid as fuck at the bacl and produced the goods in our attacking build up play. He was a boss penalty taker as well. And if for no other reason, I remember him fondly for ravaging Horseface after he missed that penalty.

Vieira has eroded that love himself over the years. He's shown absolutely no real attachment to the club and was about the join Tottenham until a load of people advised him not to. But during his time here and for a short while after he was definitely one of the favorties, more so than Pires certainly.

Sol would be great, but then he ran for Mayor of London as a Tory.

Lauren is remembered fondly but lets be honest, he was the weakest member of the invincibles first XI by a long shot. Cole was a great player but a little shit.

Speaking exclusively to SFR, former Arsenal director David Dein explained the camaraderie between members of the club’s Invincibles team with an incredible story.

“For 2014 for the World Cup I was in Brazil, as were you, in Brazil and I hosted a dinner one evening for three of our former Brazilian players. Gilberto Silva, Edu and Sylvinho. And of course both Gilberto and Edu were in that squad. And over the course of the dinner, to your very point. I said to Gilberto tell me about the Invincibles, give me a sense of what it was really like to play for that team. He thought about it, he was very pensive, and then he said: ‘Mr Dein, I will give you an example. He said when we were in the tunnel waiting to go out to the game we were just in the tunnel waiting and the game is about to start and the referees and the assistants are just about to come in, he said we would all be in a line and we had to be in a line for this. (Dein stands up to demonstrate) We would be in the tunnel waiting just before the kick-off, waiting to go out into the stadium, we would always be in the same line. So we would have Patrick Vieira as captain in front, then there would be Thierry, then Jens Lehmann, then myself then Dennis (Bergkamp) then Lauren. And then Sol Campbell. And then he said just before we went on the pitch, Patrick Vieira would turn to Henry and go (nods), with a knowing nod as if to say we were going to do it today. Thierry passed that nod to me, I’d pass it to Jens and it would be going down choreographed all the guys one after the other as if they gave themselves strength before the game. Then they would look over to the opposition, they could see them lining up and they sensed that there was literally fear in their eyes. We knew we could beat them, and he said we gave each other strength. It is a wonderful story.”

Those days there opposition could hardly dare to look at our players, let alone say hi.

I feel like the character aspect of the invincibles gets overplayed somewhat. Where was the character when we lost to United in the FA Cup semi and them at home to Chelsea in the CL? The latter game in particular we were in complete control until we just wilted under the pressure in the last 45 mins of the fixture.

We also failed to make the last 8 in 01/02 and 02/03 and 04/05 and also 'bottled' the PL seasons before and after 03/04. In reality, for the amount of ability they had, one could argue they actually under performed. It's all good striking fear into some premier league minnows but it was probably the massive difference in skill that really won the games.

Our squad was terribly thin those days to be fair. Once we missed 1 or 2 key players in big games the difference was obvious.

It's true to an extent, but we also suffered significantly fewer injuries and our key players played virtually every game. We used to whinge about Freddy bacause he'd miss a couple of weeks here and there. All the key players played against Chelsea that night.

I agree and still remember the man in your avatar complaining about the lack of squad investment after we sold Overmars and Petit.
These complaints made PHW admonish him in his daily rag column and lead to a rift between him and the club after he retaliated by revealing offers from other big club.

I’ll watch the game with Barca. Haven’t had a chance to see Gabriel this season. Always interesting to see a defender away from Wenger’s haphazard hand

His haphazard hand has been fine for Koscielny and Monreal who both looked average when they came. Or Kolo Toure. Some players may be unsuited for a particular League. I don't think Wenger is poor with individuals anyways. It's him organizing the the defense and midfield into a cohesive unit that is an issue.

Gabriel I thought was quite poor with us. He had a couple of decent runs. One ended with a red against Chelsea and the other with an injury.

Rosicky has retired from Football. Hope we can offer him some role as a staff here given how influential he was amongst the players when he was here.

Probably one of his most enjoyable performances ever, he had so much fun.
