Hleb would walk into our team only because Wenger has been negligent and not signed a class winger. I find it hard to believe that someone watching our team, a team that is severely struggling for goals, would want another player who doesn't pose a proper goal threat. IMO we need a proper player for our front line and not a half player like Hleb.

Yeah, would be happy for him as well, very decent and humble bloke from what I hear too. His body probably wasn't made for top flight football but still you wonder what could've been if it wasn't for that prick Dan Smith. Had he reached his potential I reckon we wouldn't have these recurring discussions of who to play in midfield.

Given that he was not injury prone before that tackle, and given the amount of complications he had after going through that surgery, 99% yes.

Diaby and Wilshere had superb ability to evade pressing. Could have used them 🙁

If we wanted a Diaby style player in midfield we could just use Ox. He's every bit as good at getting a past a player only to make a ridiculous decision and lose the ball.

Yeah but after the 05-06 season where he got injured, he made, according to Wiki, 18 (in half a season after coming back), 28, 36 and 40 appearances over the next 4 years after which is when the injuries really started happening for long stretches

You sure? I thought he had some issues at Auxerre already. Regardless Dan Smith's tackle certainly didn't help matters.

I think I've read that he was pretty injury prone as a youth too. He missed a lot of games for Auxerre which is why he featured so little for them. Didn't he carry a knock when we signed him?

Either way the tackle obviously screwed up his biomechanics. I don't think his muscle fibres were ever made for top level athleticism though.

Hleb was top class for the first half of the 2007-2008, probably the best player on form in that side along with Adebayor. He was pretty average apart from those 20 games though; played slightly better in Europe through his tenure because it suited his playing style more.

But then like so many others in that era, he fucked off as soon as he showed good form. Pretty mind-boggling that Adebayor, RVP, Fabregas (he had two top class seasons to be fair), Nasri, Hleb, and even Flamini all left after playing well for one season.

I had suppressed most of that match from memory. Fucking Bendtner. He literally knocked us out of Champions League twice. Who needs opponents with teammates like that?

The first time was more unforgivable. Pretty confident we would have done something special in that season. Ridiculous block really.

Second time was just as bad. Clean through on goal and he mishandles the ball. Fucking wanker. He had this inane ability to come on in games and play like a horse carriage without a horse. I wonder how many millions he cost the club in those CL games where any two-bob academy player would have been likely to see us through.
