It's not that bad. Odegaard on his day could be world class.

Anyway I was just fishing to see what the pro Odegaard folks would say about where they perceive him in the pantheon of great Arsenal midfielders. Doesn't seem like many rate him too highly in comparison to our best midfielders of yesteryear

Odegaard wil captain Arsenal to more trophies than Cesc. Incidentally, replacing Vieira with Cesc was the biggest mistake of Wenger's career.

flobaba big change in tone in a year. Last season before he got injured he wasn't just better than Cesc but also being compared to Bergkamp. I still have a lot of time for him by the way. He is so much better than he is showing now.

Odegaard is a top player but people comparing him to Ozil and Cesc, let alone Bergkamp are out of their mind.

I'm not going to strike out into the rough by claiming Özil wasn't a truly dazzling talent, and also capable of running hard and working wonders.

But if I were heading into a season of Premier League football, there's no doubt I'd take both Ødegaard's best Arsenal season over Özil's best and Ødegaard's worst Arsenal season over Özil's worst.

Ødegaard at his best you've got the league's most creative player along with godly work rate and leadership, the guy who racks up assists, triggers our press and beats their press.

Özil at his best you've got a generational creative genius and ... well, everything else on the table is decent.

But Özil at his worst, that's a fucking useless prick who's not even available for selection, because he's on strike hanging out at barbecues with war criminals.

Sicario2 they’ve both won a Charity Shield.

Fabregas won an FA Cup, but he did also lose two finals (Champions League and a League Cup), so does that mean he ranks -1 behind Odegaard in terms of meaningful honours?

Burnwinter yeah even on a pure output basis Ozils best season has 25 GC, Odes has 22. Odegaards 2nd best season is 18 with Ozils being 17. They're pretty much on par. When you take everything else Odegaard does on the pitch it makes the idea that Ozil was levels above Ode sound very silly.

Odegaard has never racked up more than 10 assists in a season, so calling him the league's most creative player is quite a stretch given we've had Saka, Salah and De Bruyne at their best in the last few seasons. I'd swap his pressing abilities for someone who produces more assists and goals.

Ozil deserves to be in Tier 3 with Odegaard. Ozil on form was the superior player but in his time with us how many elite seasons did he really have with us?

I mean, that's my point. If when assembling a squad you'd take the best, the worst and the average of one player's quality over the same from another player any day, it's a stretch to claim it's the latter player who's the better of the two.

You'll end up supporting that stretch by carrying on about moments, ceilings, finals, or performances for other clubs, but when it comes down to it I'd take Ødegaard. Here's hoping we see his best this season ... 🤞

Burnwinter whats happening now is people are comparing a bit of a lull due to injuries for Odegaard vs the best of Ozil. People tend to forget even at his best Ozil was criticised for disappearing regularly in big away games. Whatever your complaints about Odegaard are you can't say he hides like that.

Qwiss — Odegaard was certainly hiding and abysmal the first few seasons he played Liverpool. He’s corrected that the last two seasons but prior to that he had some cowardly games.

And ozil couldn't be bothered after we got knocked out of Europe each season, he'd take the rest of the season off.
