Goalkeeping is a position where experience maturity consistency and stability count for a lot.
I agree that he's still probably too inconsistent to be top class, but you know Wenger thinks that spending 2-3M on a keeper is extravagant splurging.......

Yes, that's what makes it so difficult for him.

There are easily 10-15 GKs at, around or better than Chesney's level in the PL alone.

Courtois is top top class. His positioning for a keeper is the best I have seen for years, always make saves look easy.

Szczesny is nowhere near the level, but he is also not 10-15 gks worse off. I think he is easily top 5 when he gets his mojo back.

The last few yards of top keeping are psychological.

What's to admire about Szczesny? He came in and saw off Fabianski with confidence and resolve, despite the latter's sometimes resurgent form, so he did well there.

This season he's a decisive keeper who's been making bad decisions. He's now facing the second big hurdle of his career, so it's more a question of how he responds now than of making a preemptive judgement. Jury's out.

Huh? Fabianski kept getting injured... That has nothing to do with Szczesny.

Was an AST meeting yesterday and supposedly they talked about a top class GK being very high on the agenda for us. About damn time as well, Szczesny clearly isn't good enough and I'm not entirely convinced by Ospina either.

Selective memory. What you're saying only applies to a couple of seasons. The rest of the time he was either on the bench and performing well in the cups, or in the first team.

I hope that Ospina playing has the same positive effect on Szczesny in the same way competition for places seems to have had a positive effect on other areas in the team.

Despite Fabianski being an decent keeper, he did have an unfortunate habit of picking up an injury at the worst possible time, I do think Szczesny has had it far too easy for far too long. A bit like quite a few of the young players that have played a lot of games for us in the past few seasons. They all have outstanding ability, in my opinion, so there's hope for them yet. They just have dedicate themselves and get serious about being the best footballers they can be.

Well if he's not feeling the heat now then he was never worth worrying about, that's my point. Has to respond, he'll get another chance.

Just seen some tweets on my timeline last night, some members believe that we are in for another keeper. Not sure how accurate these guys are, wouldn't say any of them have a real inside knowledge of our transfer dealings but hope they are right!
