My concern with Martinez is he wouldn't be a big enough change or developed enough personality to really OWN the transition. Seems a little 'Wenger-lite', and I think we could see that fail because he'd be a watered down version of a great.

Yes, I think we need a big name with a markedly different style if we're to truly change.

I predict we wouldn't look one iota better than we look now with Pep Guardiola. We wouldn't win shit either. I don't for a second think he can play 'his' football with anything other than world class players. I also find his football boring. Talk about crimes against football - he fucked up the best playing team in Europe and turned them into Barcelona lite.

There are a lot of managers out there who I think would have done a better job than Wenger has in the past couple of years, and there are even more around who I think suit us better now in this new financial reality.

Even though Bayern were at their best during their last season under Heynckes, it's hardly a great crime to turn them into Barcelona lite, which, when I assume you're talking about Barcelona under Pep, could also be called "The greatest team of our generation" lite. Their record this season is 12-3-0 and their goal difference 37-3. They walked the hardest group in the Champions League, and dominated City with ten men.

No, he has made them boring to watch, and he has made them a mess defensively. There isn't a clear offensive upside to it either. They were battered by Real Madrid over two legs last season playing like Barcelona, and they themselves battered the real Barcelona the year before. They will get done this season as well. It's all well and good in the Bundesliga because they face teams every week with far worse players, but Guardiola hasn't improved them one bit IMO.

Pep created the greatest side in footballing history. Let's not forget. They've looked a fraction of the team without him. Part of that is down to Xavi but...

Ancelotti has always been on the move and Real always change their managers, I think he will leave Real within the next year or two.

@[deleted] It's easier to improve Arsenal than the best team in the world. If them having conceded three goals in 15 league matches can't prove that they're not a mess defensively, their CL record this season sure can. Conceded four goals in what was easily the toughest group, two of which came in the match against City when they'd played with ten men and were secured first place anyway. This Bayern is not the same as last year's Bayern, and they will not be battered this season. Not saying they will win, but they will not get battered.

Forgot Simeone?

I totally did.  How do you edit a poll?  Want to replace Martinez with Simeone. If a mod could do that, and make sure users can change their votes, I'd be much obliged.

I think Klopp is out for me now. He's at least partly to blame for Dortmund's injury crisis, and no great manager would have a record this horrible this far into the season, no matter the circumstances. He's also not responsible for Dortmund's transfer business, so he doesn't get the credit there, either.

Ancelotti would be a pragmatic choice. He always wins, and we would likely score lots of goals. The ship would stay steady and it would ease the transition - people would see that life after Wenger isn't that bad.

Simeone would add a lot of the qualities we lack. I'm not sure how much input he has into Atletico's transfers, though. One thing to note with all these candidates is that we have no football men at the club, and our scouts are terrible (esp the French ones), so we almost need a manager who would also be our director of football/scouting.

I hate Guardiola and the way his teams play.

Lucien Favre?

The football hipster candidate.  He hasn't achieved anything as a manager.  Needs to go to a bigger team first, win something, and then I'd consider him for a club as big as Arsenal.

Like Roberto Martinez?

We did get Wenger from some Japanese club, so I guess it can turn out alright even if it's someone we've never heard of.

wenger did win ligue 1 with monaco.  but with modern footballers and agents, i think a big club needs a big manager.

DaG, Jihadi John and Steve Bould.

In that order.

You may be right, but Barcelona certainly didn't need a big manager when they hired Guardiola.

Fully agree.
