It was more than annoying. We fucked up big time - I can't remember an easier group ever.

TBH we could have done better last year as well - I remember I was furious with us not really going for a draw in Naples (which would have done it for us).

Agree with the Anderlecht game but Dortmund were sensational against us in the first game. As bad as they've been this season I think most top teams would have been in for a rough night that game.

They were good. We were quite poor, second best to almost everything on the day. I think we could and should have done much better

Well drawing to Anderlecht is unforgivable, much like the draw with Napoli last year was too.

As in the supposed draw.

I can accept last year, Napoli is never the easiest of grounds to go to but this year was a massive bottle job. We had alot going our way, 1) Dortmund being out of form, 2) lifeline against Anderlecht in the last minutes, 3) leading 3-0 against Anderlecht, 4) Galatasaray being unbelievably shit, 5) Anderlecht unexpectedly drawing at Dortmund.

Can we hope for a 6? Porto or Monaco.

A draw in Napoli and we'd have topped the group. And not automatically get eliminated, etc. We could have done that. We should have done that. We didn't even try.

What do you mean? We played 9 of the 11 best available players. Hardly putting out the reserves.

We were not going for it. I remember that clearly, though I don't really remember the details (what we prioritized or what we could or could not do - I just remember there was a very strong sense we were not giving it our best effort all along - even before the game). We should never have lost to Napoli - they weren't that good.

When a team doesn't go for a win - they go for the draw. They never don't even try to draw, that's just absurd. We put out what was almost our strongest team. We went for the draw, and when we conceded we couldn't readjust. I think the biggest mistake was going for a draw instead of win, but to say we didn't try to get the one point? That I disagree with.

Dunno, Quincy. I don't find it very constructive to go deeper than that. Truisms like "a team either goes for a win or for a draw" are hardly helpful -
it's not like you never heard of prioritizing, and putting your weight on one goal rather than the other, and hoping for the best or to get lucky with the
other one. Napoli was the other one, in that case, and it wasn't just a matter of line-ups. But I'm not going to continue with this further.
