I think you see Kos and Arteta covering for Gibbs a lot not because Gibbs is poor at marking but because he's instructed to push so far up.

I'm as harsh as anyone on Gibbs, and I think his positioning and marking is actually quite good. What I like is that he's proactive in marking a man when we're outnumbered so that let's other players easily pick up their mark.

I don't see Arteta covering for the fullbacks nearly enough. Same goes for Flamini.

Hmmmmm, do you not see them covering or do you not see them actually mopping up the mistake?

Thought Arteta was well positioned most of last year to react when we lost the ball (think vs Chelsea) but his quality/pace didn't always ensure the mess was handled well.

Most of last year/season is a long time ago in football. I was talking about this season. And if he can't physically cover it doesn't matter where he's positioned. TBH I don't usually think he's positioned all that well, I prefer what he's done in recent games to earlier in the season but again I've not seen a lot of fullback cover.

I don't blame Arteta for any of that though, he's not a natural DM and his well past his physical peak. He shouldn't be expected to preform the role he does.
