last i checked we had a worse points total fixture for fixture compared to last season as well.

i suspect by the end of the season we'll have a similar points total, as the wheels were about to come off at this point last season, whereas the fixtures we have left this season favour us

We are a 3rd best team in the division and this is where we should finish, unless ManU hit some very good form or one of Spurs/Liverpool hit incredible form.

We're 3rd best at the moment Marv, but just like a game is not 60 minutes long a season is not 26 games long.

Biggus, after 26 games, I'm more or less comfortable with our place. That's where we belong. Only problem is around 4 other teams are more or less as good as us. Three are on the up - Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool - and two are stagnant - United and Saints, so that might result in the latter being pushed out of the race before long. We're not a great team. Talk of winning Europe is most wishful thinking

I think most of us agreed before the season that our squad looks 3rd strongest in the league and its shaping up to be like this as well. Unless our form drops drastically or someone else hits very good form for the last 1/3rd of the season, we should be main contenders for the 3rd.

3rd might be where we belong on paper but we should be closer to City than United.

This part is down to injuries purely. We're missing like 5-7 points because of too many injuries at least.

United's squad is better than ours on paper and they have a shorter season. Make no mistake, they are vastly underperforming.

Wouldnt rate their squad better than us tbf, plus they have to count in the new manager factor.

As far as a squad designed to go 38 games and finish in the top three goes, it's a top squad. van Gaal has been awful.

I agree van Gaal has been rubbish, but, in my view, the problem with their squad is similar to Tottenham's, in that they almost have two replica XIs. Strong in a few posotions, but seriously lacking quality in others, and generally an overall underwhelming best XI.

United's biggest issue is a lack of pace in their team and frontline in particular

Can't work out if van Gaal is making them look bad or if the players are simply as bad as they look. Think we have a better, more balanced squad either way though.

We'll finish closer to 2nd than 4th. Also, United haven't been great because they've assembled a squad of tremendously overrated players. Their squad is performing to its level. They're not shoo-ins for top 4.

I'm more concerned with Liverpool than Man United.

For all our talk of playing well recently, they are the ones in better form.

I totally agree mate, if Wenger knows one thing it's how to finish 4th and he's shown himself to be ruthlessly practical when it's threatened, he'll spend and/or he will drop the possession pussyball bullshit for a more pragmatic counter attacking game when he has to.
You know how it is around here- Beat Man City and all of a sudden they change the Prize thread to "Gunning for 1st!" or we get an easy draw in the CL and we're almost Champions of Europe oblivious of who's waiting for us in the next 3 rounds.
