Indeed. Moyes also had 42 points after 24 games with United last season. That's how bad we are right now. We're not catching City when we can't even get past Southampton in the table. You people are way too fickle.

I've been saying we will finish third, pushing for second, all season, not sure how it's fickle to maintain the same stance you've alway held. As for City, however badly we've been performing City are only 7 ahead. We've got a relatively favourable run in with something resembling a fully fit squad. We should absolutely be aiming to catch them.

Are you guys serious, right now? Spurs and Liverpool are on a tear in the league. The former has just gone ahead of us and the latter will surely follow suite soon. Look at their records in the last 2 months. Rodgers has his team playing defense for the first time since he joined.
I think the league will end: Chelsea, United, City, Liverpool, Spurs.
Our best hope is that Alexis returns hungry hand saves us from Wenger

Don't think we should be too downbeat after losing today (the manner in which we lost is another discussion), even our best teams of the last twenty years have struggled to win at Spurs consistently. Any result was possible - we should be more annoyed about failing to beat them at the Emirates in September.

Beat Leicester in midweek and we're still on for third, easily. City are going through their worst form of the season right now, unless we win 90% of our remaining games I don't think we'll pip them to 2nd.

We should focus on Spurs, Southampton and United before that. All of them are ahead and none of them have European cups to worry about. We're going to drop a lot of point when the CL and the FA Cup start to add congestion to the fixture list.

I said a realistic aim. I didn't say that's where I thought we would finish. We cannot makes excuses for our position. We are 6th after TWENTY FOUR ROUNDS. If Wenger gets his act together, I think we can finish 3rd. That's a realistic aim. I do not think it is what will transpire unless things change drastically. We are a shambles.

I've actually been long resigned to the idea that we won't finish in the top 4. And I'm actually fine with us finishing 5th or lower because it might trigger some changes.

I'm not dismissing the sides around us anyway, we should be in third at least now but we're not so things don't alway work out. But I think our squad is comfortably the third best, and potentially good enough to capitalise on a City should they continue to drop points so that's where I'm keeping my expectations. Battling for 4th with the rest of them will be a severe let down for me.

I think you are over rating Liverpool a lot there. Their next few games are really tough and I don't think they'll pick up a lot of points in them.

And you are discounting Southampton far too easily too.

Otfgoon. I'm not sure about comfortably 3rd best. That Frankenstein squad that LVG has assembled has something we haven't had in a decade: a front four that can overwhelm any opponent in the world. That will be enough to see them win the games they should be winning. We don't have that.

And if you have actually been watching the games for the last few months, you'll see that Liverpool have generally been playing a much more organized game than us. We may have the 3rd best squad, but these little details - better striking at United and better coaching at Liverpool - should be enough of a factor to leave us out

We have the 4th best squad, maybe the 3rd best starting eleven and by far the toughest fixture schedule of anyone in the top 6 except for Chelsea. It's a tough ask to finish higher than 4th considering how few points are left on the table.

If we win every single PL game we'll end up with 84 points. And anyone who thinks we'll win 14 straight games (which would be an all time league record), or anything even close to it, is an idiot. We're averaging 1.75 points per game. That puts us on course for 66 points.

We've been behind Spurs in February before, haven't we? I'd start Rosicky in every game and let his annual post-February form get us 4th.
