The pass Pirlo just played to Vidal is as good as anything you'll see on a football pitch this season. It should have been a goal. (Edit: it might have been Tevez on second viewing?)

Morata has a strong game again too. He's just a really impressive player. It's hard to find any weaknesses in his makeup.

What a magnificent footballer Modric is! Ronaldo scores the goals but that Madrid team is Modric's. I hope Wilshere finally gets over his injuries, that's the sort of player I expect him to develop into. I don't think Modric was better prior to Jack's injuries.

Athletico Madrid were very poor in the 1st half (credits to Madrid though) but I'm sure they'd have signed for 0-0 before kick off. Gabi's legs have gone, time for Koke (who is not having a good season it has to be said) to take over and Oliver Torres could be one of the candidates to fill in the void on the left.

Looking forward to the return leg. Marcelo will be a huge loss for Madrid. Benzema didnt have a great game but Real dropped off after he was substituted.

Modric is a good central midfielder, but he was poor today. Ramos and Varane bailed them out a couple of times.

I must have seen another match, he was the most impressive outfield player tonight, completely ran the show IMO. Was actually baffled to see your post above that Madrid got overrun in midfield, Athletico Madrid were thoroughly outclassed for most of the match IMO, even looked embarrassing at times in the 1st half. Only brilliant goalkeeping by Oblak and poor touches/decision making by the Madric players in the final 3rd prevented them from conceding 3 or 4 goals. Athletico were the better team in the last 15-20 minutes.

Ramos was poor IMO.
