akpom and sanogo is like bellerin and jenkinson. it's not about ability (the younger ones are clearly superior from a footballing ability perspective), maybe the older guys can be trusted to "handle" themselves out there. or some other quality that wenger is looking for.

Akpom looks like a nothing player. He had some nice stepovers, though. I would not be shocked if he didn't make it at the Premier League level. But he is very young in all fairness.

Wenger knows that if you see some raw talent or ability that is maybe not so obvious to others that you have to allow enough time for it to come through, even if that means playing a player who's struggling, he's also good enough at knowing when players aren't going to make the leap, Sanogo's got to improve this season or he'll be off.

I would guess that the concern over Akpom is physical. He's a much better footballer than Sanogo at this moment in time; not even comparable to be honest.

Akpom reminds me of Jerome Thomas. Neither really a true center forward nor a true winger.

I don't see any particular attribute in Sanogo to see why he should start over Akpom now. Physically, I think Akpom is as ready as Sanogo was last season.

Sanogo may have been a free transfer, but for where we want to be as a club, we should never have signed him. To have someone at his age, his injury record and thus so little game time behind him to even be given the chance to be our 2nd or 3rd choice striker for any length of time was reckless. He will never really develop with so little minutes. Also someone like Akpom, if he really is rated by Wenger, should never be sidelined on age alone as it is likely that he will have lost his chance to develop at such a high level when young. I can't think of any attacking players who have made it with us having been loaned out or not been given their shot in the first team when 17-19.

It's not a Sanogo or Akpom situation, i'm not sure why all of you seem to think it is.

Anyway, Sanogo is better.

What exactly do you see that Sanogo is better at, Ludo? Personally, I see that Akpom is superior in pretty much every aspect. Sanogo is a bit bigger and stronger, but Akpom is already a big lad at 6 feet.

It also sort of is an Akpom v Sanogo situation in the sense that there can only be meaningful minutes given to one of them.

Sanogo is an athlete. He shows good strength and has the right ideas but doesn't have the technique to execute them yet. He also has the instincts of a center forward playing on the shoulder of the last defender and moves quite well.

Akpom is technically far superior to him though and more rounded as a footballer.

I think the only aspect in which Sanogo will probably be better is playing with back to goal. Neither should be in our plans for next season though.

Akpom moves better IMO, and he is just as athletic as Sanogo, but has better coordination and agility. He is also already very good with his back to goal, and he is the sort of striker who creates for himself. We even saw that 4 times today despite being played on the flank; he created 3 shots for himself (and hit the ball cleanly and with power each time as well as getting all of them on target), and then he had that circus number on the flank.

Sanogo hit the ball cleanly and with power each time as well as getting all of them on target as well. Sanogo had some shots on target that weren't goals. Akpom had some shots on target that weren't goals. Sanogo should have had an assist. Akpom had a nice piece of play that led to an inexplicable penalty. Sanogo might not make it but this discussion shows nothing but how thirsty Sanogo discreditors are. This was a kick around in the park and nobody on the team really pulled up any trees.

I like what Sanogo does with his back to goal and i think he's a goalscorer despite the fact that he hasn't scored for us yet.

I think physically he has a lot of work to do and Giroud is far ahead of him. Over the next 2 years he can hopefully stay injury free and really develop.

Akpom looks decent but he'd get eaten alive if he played up top by himself against the big boys. Is he better than any of the wingers we have right now? Cos that's where he'll get minutes if he gets them at all.

You know who should get the minutes out of Sanogo and Akpom? Its Joel Campbell.

I am very interested to see actually how he does for us if given a chance, which he certainly deserves. Too bad he probably won't even be able to appear in the Emirates Cup.

Sanogo doesn't hold a candle to Campbell. Akpom might one day, he actually looks like a footballer which is a start.
