because the 3rd choice does what exactly? the chances of a longterm injury to a goalkeeper are so low that you could get away with Almunia as your number 2, and then promote a reserve i the unlikely event that both Szczesny and 'Almunia' are injured
It's unlikely the 3rd choice will play long term but there's always the chance your 2nd choice gets sent off or injured if he plays so you at least need someone competent on the bench.
i'm happy to have an Almunia as number 2, morris-dancing and all. why pay for your courtesy car to be a Benz on your car insurance, when a Toyota should do just fine in the off-chance that you need it? 🙂
