They have a match winning keeper though and like the Southampton game showed ruthless strikers. We have neither of those. They'll need to improve though because they can't keep playing poorly and winning forever. One thing is actually not being on song and nullifying opponents but they are giving away chances for fun and riding their luck on teams not taking them.

DeGeas let in the same number of goals as Vito Mannone this season, his difference making is massively overstated.

You can look past the fact that any normal keeper would have let in more. Some of his saves are out of the world.

If only goalkeepers could be judged by the number of goals conceded. He ain't the best keeper in the world but he has won matches for his team on a consistent basis for 1.5 seasons now.

He did more than a handful of times. He on his day is pretty good too, but De Gea is undeniably better.

DeGea has had a few decent weeks and its been massively over blown. Every time he makes a standard save now people are wetting themselves. After the game against us people went on about how amazing he was when in reality he made one good save.

It's not that. I know what you are saying Qs about our game and I agree with you, but he's been United best player for a few months now and it's not only this season. He was great last season too. Almost every single game this season he had to make some unbelievable saves.

For the record despite Courtois not making those eye catching saves, I feel he is on the same level too. But his positioning and height meant that he often make difficult saves look comfortable.

He definitely wasn't "great" last season.

I am of the opinion DeGea makes things look much more difficult than they actually are and thats why he gets a lot of praise. That and he's making more stops than a United keeper usually has to. He's a good goal keeper, especially for his age but I don't think he's nearly as good as the hype of the last month would have you believe.

I think de Gea was great last season. I don't care for that type of player personally, but he was probably the second best keeper after Cech. There's some truth to the idea that it's easy to shine in a team that is horrible defensively, but in my opinion he rose to prominence a while before United's struggles began. We're talking about someone who has been pretty outstanding for the last 24 months or so. He had a bad spell early on when he arrived in England but they sorted it out quickly.

Again I see it differently. He had a horrendous spell when he arrived, then he eventually found some level of acceptability, this was then over blown because it was improvement. If he'd arrived at that level I think people would still have been underwhelmed. He's certainly a brilliant shot stopper on his day and his command of his area has improved but I still think his positioning is off and he lacks consistency.

For his age he's very good. Overall he's just about good enough for a side trying to break the top 4.

I agree with Qs that De Gea is a fair bit over rated. For me, De Gea has been in top form this season, but I certainly think Sneezey was better than him last season. If he keeps the form he is in throughout the whole season, without a series of massive fuck-ups which he has so far been prone to make, then I guess it is time to re-evaluate that stance. Not yet though.

Last season apart from 4 or 5 games we probably had the best defence in the league so easier to look good. When was the last time De Gea made a massive cock up in a game though? Even if he does he has won so many games for them and you can't hold every mistake against a keeper.

I don't agree with your assessments on Giroud & our GK but I do sometimes see where you are coming from, however that opinion is ridiculous imo. When they won the title he was among their top players so it isn't like he has just become good overnight. Bottom line is he has kept improving since joining Man Utd, he had a dodgy spell in his first season and for some that opinion has stuck. Since that rocky period he hasn't looked back once, has won loads of games for them and no coincidence he has become Spain's No.1 keeper and R.Madrid are interested.

I look at our GK and he hasn't improved at all for 2-3 years. The quicker we replace him the better, either that or we need to bring in a different coach who can improve him. Sad thing is I had high hopes for him when he broke through but he hasn't improved much since.
