Of course they can. It's a matter of positioning, not designated "labels" on players. A CB can push 10-20 yards up if that was necessary.

I'm surprised at the responses. We have been exposed in midfield ever since 2005, because of a lack of discipline and quality ahead of the defence. Only Arteta in those 9 years has done a good job at covering the defensive zone of the midfield. Clearly you all think Khedira and Ramsey suffices, even though both players are NOT of the disciplined kind. So I can't really say much more against that.

For what it's worth, we one hunnit need Khedira, but I think he will definitely form a better midfield partnership with Arteta/Schneiderlin.

A lot of wishful thinking in here. Have a look at Khedira's transformation into a top quality midfielder, and the type of player that has partnered him. Ramsey is the polar opposite of his current partners. If that isn't a concern, then I don't think there is good enough understanding of how partnerships work.

Kel and Klaus's arguments will also necessitate a slight change of tactics and positioning from our central midfielders. So all in all, Khedira will need us to tweak our tactics because he is not a natural privot. In the end everyone agrees with that notion isn't it?

That's not to say Wenger won't change Khedira's game like how he did it with Arteta so effectively(even though Arteta has been a defensive central mid for his entire career).

I really don't think anyone can complain if we sign Khedira.

Is it possible that Khedira in Wengers mind will provide cover/rotation for Ramsey? I know that would mean he wouldn't be a starter, which would be ludicrous, but he'd get plenty of games as a bit of a utility cm. It is a squad game nowadays. Our weakest period last year coincided with, and most people correlate as well, Ramsey's absence. We don't really have anyone who can fill his shoes satisfactorily, with all the running, coming from deep, pressing and all around drive he provides.

That's exactly how I see it, I think he would definitely start ahead of Arteta and fill in for Ramsey if he gets injured.

In that sense it'd be a similar signing to Sanchez. Definitely has a Wengery logic to it.

Rubbished the speculation in the same way he did with Balotelli
