I think part of it is just an act too. He's a player without a legacy nowadays, and he seems desperate to get back on Liverpool's good side. They are the only ones who were ever fond of him.

He's going down the same road, isn't he? Will not end up as a legend for any of his clubs and most people will either dislike or just feel indifferent about him.
