It absolutely does. English clubs are the only ones in Europe who keep running their players into the ground like this. Özil got injured last year. Sanchez is spent this year. They didn't have these problems in Spain.

Must admit, I don't 'get' these premeditated celebrations in general. I've not played football to any good level but I don't understand how they feel like prancing about like idiots and why it's so different to some other sports in terms of their reactions. Rugby and Cricket celebrations seem quite natural - nothing too exaggerated. It's obviously a new thing as well for the cameras, goal celebrations were much more low key before.

(edit: I realise I've got a Bergkamp celebration in the avatar. That was just about cool enough.)

IMO the type of football that PL fans/media want to see is not particularly successful at the top level. Technical ability in particular is just not valued at all, and English teams have struggled to build from the back and control central midfield in Europe in recent seasons. European teams are also more tactically disciplined. The English game is so frenetic. Bravery and tracking back don't win CL knockouts.

The PL also runs its players into the ground as has been mentioned.

It's just cyclical. It's nothing to do with technical ability not being valued, That's rubbish. If our players tracked back against Monaco we could have gone through instead of them.

Between 04/05 and 11/12 we had 7 finalists with 3 different winners. Since the European Cup's inception we've had 12 wins with 5 different winners compared to Spain's 14 wins with 2 different winners. Personally i think that's more impressive. Italy have had 3 winners with 12 wins.

Next year it could be different - who knows.

I agree completely Tony. In the last 10 years we've had 8 English finalists. More than any other league.

The Premier League's in transition at the moment. Chelsea will get their mojo back in Europe and City might change managers again. No end in sight for our poor performances while Wenger stays, though.

Even though, we had a lot of finalists during those years. The English still weren't as impressive as what we have seen from other sides in Europe.

The team we had that reached the final was cack. The Chelsea side that won it was cack. The Liverpool side that won it was cack.

We have never had anyone as good as a Barcelona, Bayern Munich or Real Madrid. Man Utd in 07/08 were probably the best English side to win the CL, but if you saw their matches against Barcelona for example, they parked the bus and scored with a Scholes goal against the run of play.

We've never had any English side who you could say was worthy of the best. All forgettable sides.
