Between 04/05 and 11/12 we had 7 finalists with 3 different winners. Since the European Cup's inception we've had 12 wins with 5 different winners compared to Spain's 14 wins with 2 different winners. Personally i think that's more impressive. Italy have had 3 winners with 12 wins.
Next year it could be different - who knows.
Even though, we had a lot of finalists during those years. The English still weren't as impressive as what we have seen from other sides in Europe.
The team we had that reached the final was cack. The Chelsea side that won it was cack. The Liverpool side that won it was cack.
We have never had anyone as good as a Barcelona, Bayern Munich or Real Madrid. Man Utd in 07/08 were probably the best English side to win the CL, but if you saw their matches against Barcelona for example, they parked the bus and scored with a Scholes goal against the run of play.
We've never had any English side who you could say was worthy of the best. All forgettable sides.
