I don't think people thought Inter was the best in the world at the time he took over. They had always bounced out of the Round of 16 in the CL prior to him arriving and were labeled as chokers. Thing about Mourinho is that he does his best during the 2nd season of a club he's at because he fixes what the team was weak at (Van Gaal is somewhat the same in this aspect in my opinion). After that, it blows up.
Do agree with Rex's view though, he is a great manager no doubt but he is overrated and has a poisonous personality.
