This is definitely wrong. Have it confirmed. Same goes with your theory of initial contact which goes into the box. Anyway for your understanding, here is a pic of it. No matter how you see it, whether its from the point of deflection or the moment when the ball is played, he is offside.

It was clearly offside, and Özil knew it as well. You see it from his reaction after he scored. Took him a while to realize the goal had been given.

Yeah, I know. I think I wrote something about it in the latter pages of the thread. I thought there was a deflection off the defender later on (turned out there wasn't). Something about the angle on the reruns.

That an ongoing foul which happens outside the box and continues into it should result in a penalty and not a freekick by the letter of the law. There's no such thing as initial contact. Not sure why Clrnc felt the need to bring it up here, but it's not 'my theory' and it's definitely not wrong. We discussed this in the football section a while back. Think it was when Demichelis got sent off in Champions League.

Doesn't belong in this thread anyway and I'm not going to spend time on repeating an old discussion.

Yeah the rules state if a foul continues into the box it's a penalty.

Ozil was off side. And deflections don't start a new phase.

The thing is, if its a pull or something similar, yes its a penalty if it continued into the box.

Demichellis' was a tackle which his momentum inertia of slide brought him into the box.
