It was out of the blue,’ said Wilshere. ‘He was having a go at Arsenal, and I was wondering if he was going to come for me. If it had come from a rubbish player I could say, “What are you talking about?” but it came from Paul Scholes.

He should talk to Ramsey instead of Scholes if he wants to understand how to cope with missing out on key development seasons or having those seasons disrupted by injury.
Fair enough Scholes can advise him on general aspects of his game, but I don't remember Scholes missing out on so much game time during his early twenties.

Hat off to Jack IMO. Shows maturity to pick up the phone and call Scholes after what Scholes said. I'd listen too if one of England's best ever midfielders had anything to say. 🙂

I'm not sure that it does show maturity.
I reckon it might show that he spends too much time listening to opions and comments from people who don't necessarily have his or Arsenal's best interests in mind when they speak.

Scholes isn't known for running his mouth though, is he? In any case, I think Scholes has a point in his criticism.

Exactly. He should listen to Wenger if he wants to improve, not some ginger knob from Manchester who scores point in the media slagging him off.

I doubt it would've made much difference. Whether you're listening to Ramsey or you're listening to Scholes, I'm guessing you'd be asleep before they've finished a sentence.

These are all minor points about leadership, attitude, taking responsibility, passion, grit, bite, determination, belief and whatever other Britishy qualities the press like to bang on about. I'm 100% sure that none of that is going to be an issue with Jack. It's all about whether he'll ever be able to move as freely as he did when he was 18/19.

England eating its young. Wilshere's been talking like this all season. He's responding to getting shitted on while getting back from injury by trying to score goals and get assists to prove people wrong, and the awareness and patience he showed when he was breaking out has been totally absent this season. All high-risk play, he's never looked relaxed and doesn't pick his moments to make something happen.

I think the media should let Arsene Wenger handle his development, thanks.

I think he has more of a future out wide than he does at CM so I think adding goals and assists is pretty solid advice.

And even as a CM, I see him as an offensive-minded CM partnered by a more defensive-minded CM; in which case, I think adding goals and assists is still a good idea.

He was adding goals to his game before he got injured. Everyone (but Scholes, apparently) noticed it. Wenger has mentioned it several times this season. Trust some shitbird tabloid to write about how "Scholes transformed Wilshere" when he bags them for fun next season though.

I don't see any problem with Wilshere asking Scholes for advice. The latter's hardly a fine specimen of humanity but he's been successful at every level of the game.

So long as he doesn't think anything other than intelligent hard work and training will actually make a big difference.

And so long as he doesn't get Scholes to teach him how to "tackle" ...

But I always dislike these articles where sportspeople talk about their progression in the abstract.

I remember when Shane Warne used to say things like "I went back to Terry [Jenner] because I hadn't been bowling as well as what Shane Warne can" :o Just leave it on the training ground.

He's saying that's the main thing he should be worrying about when other parts of his game have declined. He's all over the place defensively and he frequently dribbles into corners or makes impossible passes trying to force something. He's never gonna be a 15-goal scorer, he needs to contribute in all facets of play to be a key player for us.

If anything I'd argue that he'll never be good defensively, and needs to work on his attacking ability to be a key player for us. You can't just take away his nature to play a risky game.

In fairness it sounds like he called Scholes to argue with him, not ask him for advice. The rest is just him being polite.

Doesn't exactly sound like he's taking in everything Scholes had to say as gospel.

Wenger has said he needs to add this stuff to his game several times. He's an attacking midfielder, of course he needs to add it to his game. Last thing we need is for him to become a nothing player.
