Not that I don't believe this was a sincere statement, but supposing he did have doubts about Wenger, what else would he say, when even refusing to endorse Wenger explicitly would be taken as a sign of unrest?
We won't find out what the players really thought (and think) until they leave or Wenger leaves. Those that leave tend to tell a different story ... but often still support Wenger.
