Is a ban on selling players even legal? Aren't people supposed to be able to move job freely under EU law.
Don't think I they are banned from selling.

Ok yoda.

they will appeal and will be issued a warning. and then the Neymar case will hit and they will get an actual ban :-)

It would probably qualify as a justifiable restriction of the free movement for workers, which (with some nuances) only applies to EU citizens anyway.
It was only lifted by the CAS after a settlement between Chelsea and Lens though, not by FIFA.
A transfer is the selling/buying of a players registration, so extending contracts should be fine for Barcelona.

So if Barca can pay off all the clubs involved here can they go to CAS as well?
Was thinking that Valdes playing hardball had backfired with that injury but they might both need each other now. From what i've read this is quite different to the Chelsea case and should be enforced although i'm sure Barca will pull a few strings any where they can
Other than Puyol and Valdes leaving, they have no other issues. Bartra had a great game yesterday and I am sure they have some good players coming up as always.
Ter Stegen will need to sit one year on the Gladbach bench though 😆

It's different this time in that it's not a club who've complained to FIFA, in fact other clubs are not really involved at all, they've simply broken FIFA's rules that were designed to protect young players.
The fact that FIFA has clamped down on one of the really big elephants here is what is most pleasing IMO. As Burnsy said, that means that there is hope for FFP to actually be properly enforced regardless of which clubs are found breaching the rules.
It's technically a player registration ban, so they can give their current players extended contracts.
Puyol, Valdes, and Dani Alves, are going to make an absolute fortune from this.
But players who are out of contracts must surely be allowed to go? That means that they no longer belong to Barcelona, right? It would mean that the players mentioned above certainly have leverage on the club, but if they want to go they can still do so?
It's FIFA not UEFA of course Rex, but at least it's in line with my general idea that administrators have a lot more power over the leagues and clubs—through the community of clubs as a whole—than people tend to admit when it comes to FFP. See what happens there though.
I know, but it is a major governing body laying down the law. Good start.
You guys leave Rex alone, his English reading and comprehension skills are adequate.
