arsenal and west ham are through to the semis, to be joined by either birmingham/aston villa and ipswich/west brom. it is obviously a very winnable competition now, though there's the possibility of a tough away fixture at either villa park or st andrews. it begs the question....

We have a habit of getting blown out in the semis by middling but motivated PL teams, so it's by no means a foregone conclusion.

... but we better fricking win it. A bit silverware in Feb would set the boys up nicely for whatever run in they've set themselves up.

Tell you what, if we get to the final I'll be straight to Wembley - it may 'only' be the Carling Cup, but actually winning a senior trophy could be a big boost for some of these players. Still, a potentially tricky Semi coming up now...

I think we'll probably win it, we are favourites thats for sure but nothings guaranteed with this team. Would it feel like ending the drought? Don't think so but at least it'd shut the pundits up about it.

i think we need to win it, if for no other reason than to have our players experience what its like to win something (other than Cesc). i dont think they can have the correct "winning mentality" without actually winning something

Can't say i'm too fussed about winning the Carling Cup, although like Asa, i'd probably make a day of it. Wasn't gutted coming away from Cardiff being robbed by Chelsea, but then, i thought that side would go on to win alot more than it has done.

Obviously these players need to win some silverware though. Hopefully it'll begin to breed success.

Yep, it's easy to sit here and say "it's only the Carling Cup", but a day out at Wembley where the supporters get to watch one of our boys in a red and white shirt holding aloft a bit of silverware is what it's all about for us fans.

If the Carling Cup is a trophy on par with anything we won between -98 and -05 then so is a silver medal in Champions League. I'm just saying.

It would be nice to win it, but it's always nice to see Arsenal win irrespective of cup, division or opponents. It's neither here nor there in the grand scheme of things unless we can add more significant trophies to the list as well. I like what such a win would symbolise though, given the fact that we've basically fielded the same makeup of youth and substitutes in the competition for the last few years.

I expect us to win simply because it is over two legs.

When it is just one match anything can happen on the day but the teams we have been putting out should have the requisite quality to beat the teams remaining in the competition over two legs.

Now we are through to the semis and United are out, I think we'll win it.

Winning it wouldn't be such a big deal from a positive perspective, but I think losing it from here would be a significant blow so I really hope we do. We need to be gathering momentum during that part of the season.

Yeah. At least let's force them to add the word 'major' to that sentence.

I actually think we have more of a chance of winning it if we don't field a full team. Our first team players will lack the motivation that the likes of Vela, Gibbs and the other Pole will have in these games.

Agreed.

We have lots of games and a big squad, and we should use it. I don’t think the drop off is really all that much in certain areas anyway and a couple of players have played an awful lot of games already.
