I think it's good to have Fabianski in fighting form, if nothing else because it keeps Szczesny on his toes. Whenever he feels reassured that there's no real competition for the gloves his performances tend to drop. He was woeful last season and wouldn't be first choice right now if Fabianski hadn't shared certain traits in his physical makeup with Abou Diaby and Kieran Gibbs.

you guys are spending too much energy on this. there isn't enough to really distinguish between these goalies. this isn't Manchester City dropping Hart for the clown who kept goal on Sunday. or United/Chelsea dropping their keeper. we have two good but not great keepers. over a 38 game season, i'd be surprised to see a real point differential between the two.

where there is cause for concern in selection is options like Koscielny vs Vermaelen, or Giroud vs Sanogo or Sagna vs jenkinson

I'm not quite sure what we're all arguing about to be honest. There really isn't a huge gap between our two options here. We're not talking about an unproven youngster vs a proven champion—these are two players of roughly equivalent calibre. From the start of a league season to the end, I doubt if there'd be a serious difference between their overall performances.

Fabianksi has done well against Spurs, Liverpool and Everton, he'll be fine againt our remaining opponent(s). As Claudius said other position require more attention.

There certainly is a difference in certain aspects of their game, Fabianski is still unconvincing as regards crosses.
Before he just charged out recklessly now that was coached out of him he remains too much on his line for my liking he still seems unsure.

The issue is not quality of opponents but mentality. Do you trust him to hold his nerve while there's a trophy within our grasp? Last time he played a cup semi for us, he gifted Drogba an easy winner.

Yeah, I was taking the mick. I felt we were mostly just rephrasing each other endlessly in this thread, as sometimes happens. Sorry, could've been anyone's post. 🙂

Fabianski has just put in a fine performance against Bayern. He keeps doing well.

All three are good players. The principle is to include Fabianski because he's in fine form and has earnt his involvement. The rest is water under the bridge.

If its water under the bridge the players Szczesny and Koscielny were 3 years ago are rather irrelevant now don't you think?

Fabianski is good enough to see out the remainder of the season, let alone play in the FA cup semi. His performances warrant it.

Biggs, I've repeatedly defended Szczesny and especially Koscielny against people who continue to slate them based on that mistake three years ago. Now I'm defending Fabianski from you slating him based on form from three years ago too. Water under the bridge, as I said.

I'm not slating him, I admit he's certainly improved on where he was but ya know- Two into one doesn't go.

People posting clips of an irrelevant penalty save in an irrelevant game doesn't change anything.
Either Szczesny is our #1 and he should play against Wigan or Fabianski is our #1 and he should play against Wigan.
