Roberto Martinez reckons that if a player picks up any sort of soft tissue injury a mistake has been made in preparation or recovery. We have fucking 4-5 at any one time.
I heard about that. Did Martinez mean that if a soft tissue injury occurred that a mistake had been made in preparation, ie. training, or did he mean playing players when they're in need of a rest? The latter puts some of the responsibility on the player knowing his body and his capabilities, but the former fits in with all the stuff we've heard recently about Wenger's training methods.
Perhaps it's a combination of both?
Either way I want our situation thoroughly investigated and some new ideas brought in on the training method front. I really think there's something in all this stuff the Dutch twat says, it seems to me that the more you can build fitness through exercises that replicate what it is you're trying to do rather than hard running, which is what Wenger's approach has been described as, makes more sense.
It's funny, and maybe times have moved on, but I remember the likes of Dixon and Keown saying one thing Wenger brought with him was a lot less running in their fitness work. I don't really know where I'm going with this, I'm just seriously pissed off that we get so many seemingly avoidable injuries. Way more than all the teams around us.
