It would be very generous to call him a CM in these last 5 years.
It would be a very opportunistic buy which suggests there's a chance we could do it. But that is something that's very wrong in our transfer policy. We need to identify what positions we desperately need players in, and what type of players we need, and then try to sign players which suits that plan. Not have a look at what value-for-money signings are available and then try to engineer a team it, because once a key players goes down we'll struggle more.
I'm not going to moan if Wenger tried to sign Cesc but there are many different types of players we need to look at first. Even if we were looking to use him at CM, it's not the type of CM we need. We need a top defensively-minded CM next to Ramsey. Signing Cesc would still mean we need that player. As I said, it's inefficient.
