I know Schniederlin is the Soton mid of choice on here but I'd still quite like to get Wanyama. They're a much better team when he plays and he's more than shown he was capable for the step up to the PL. He's still really young too. Him and Ramsey would be a killer centre midfield.

Wanyama isn't good enough on the ball. Easily dispossessed.

Yeah, Wanyama is poor. They're better with Cork is his position IMO.

I disagree. He's plenty good on the ball.

innervisionscm, they're much better with Wanyama in the team. I'm pretty sure their results will back that up too.

He's a decent option for a mid table side. He is nowhere near good enough for a team that have ambitions to compete with the best in Europe.

I think he's better than that and at 22 he's still improving. Most of his downsides as a player are age related too, a little undisciplined but within 2 seasons I think he'll be a brilliant midfielder.

This is a very good point. Everyone in the media bangs on about how we should bring in this defensive monster that sits in-front of our defence, keeps it simple and allows our attacking players to focus on attacking - that is the biggest load of nonsense ever IMO. Passing (footballing ability) is the most important quality for the deepest midfielder to have IMO.

Liverpool made a small but important change few weeks ago by dropping Gerrard into that deep holding role. I remember saying that was a very good move. Gerrard is no longer mobile, and his positioning is quite poor/average, but his passing from deep is quality. It enables them to pass it better and quicker to their forwards. For a footballing side, quality passing from deep is where everything starts.

If you are looking for a Busquets type, then Iturraspe fits the bill. Mikel Rico (who has been a shrewd signing for Bilbao) easily gets your attention because of his all action style but Iturraspe is the man. He looks like a fisherman, but don't get fooled by his looks, he's an unbelievably good footballer (quality passer and amazing close control and ball manipulation). Bilbao are one of the very best footballing sides in Europe and players like him are part of the reason. He's also very intelligent without the ball - one of the most intelligent midfielders in Europe IMO; always at the right place, always making a vital block etc What I also like about him is his strengths in the air, wins a lot of headers which is important for a DM in the PL.

The only doubt I have about him is he doesn't get linked with any top club in Europe and hasn't got a cap for Spain, so maybe he isn't as good as I think 😆

Do you think he'd play regularly for Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern, City, Chelsea, PSG etc?

I like both Mikel Rico and Iturraspe. They are both excellent players and together form a very good central midfield. Iturraspe is the more defensive of the two, and Mikel Rico is very endearing with his energy. Having said that, if we were to sign one of them, then I too would go with Iturraspe. He is only 25 too. I like watching Bilbao a whole heap. Their pressing and work ethic is a joy to watch.

Why do people still say stuff like that when we shattered our transfer record half a year ago?

They showed that they're willing to spend, the only question now is if they can do it well enough.
