Two purchases and suddenly the team looks miles better on paper. Luiz is still a worry in a two-man defense though.

For sure, but I think three starting signings is too much to ask. Trying to be reasonable but also field a team that could push for 4th/5th and be enjoyable to watch.

Ceballos and Buendia look like a great match as they play a similar game, and they'd work well deeper or further up the field.

Saw RM may be open to selling some players including the likes of Ceballos and Jovic.
However as much as I'd like those 2 I'd take this bloke as #8 in an inverted midfield.

Xhaka can start alongside Partey as Ceballos/Buendia get up to speed.

If we retain Ceballos he won't need to get up to speed - no Xhaka required = sell.

If we're trying to generate revenue but also looking to play with an inverted 3 man midfield, then I'd sell Xhaka, Torreira & Guendouzi from our CM options and initially keep Elneny as cover.

Jesus never thought I'd read that.

Ceballos has the best stats across the board in midfield since play returned.
So what is it that Xhaka does that makes him indispensable and that neither Ceballos or Partey can't do?

He hasn't played with neither Partey nor Buendia so that we don't have a functioning midfield when Ceballos plays with either Willock, Guendouzi or Torreira doesn't really prove that he can't play with those two.

Only because Xhaka may be the best suited/experienced of our current CM options = does not mean he can't be improved upon.

I think partey can

Partey with ceballos and buendia ahead of him would be good. Partey as main distributor, but with all 3 guys filling in as distriubtor or box to box based on the needs of the match

It's less about Ceballos, more about how much we still depend on Xhaka

The potentially realistic wishlist team to get us back into the top 6. Hopefully Gabriel and Buendia kick-on and become main stays but history tells us at least one of them will fail and will need to be replaced by the end of the season. Countinho will probably go back to Barca and we start again pretty much from square one. Man, it's depressing being 8th.
