Dunno if I'd really want a player who stalls on contract talks with their clubs hoping for a cut price or free transfer to a bigger club as he would just as likely do it to us if he reached a level where even bigger clubs are interested. You know, they type to pretend to sign a contract and drag it on until the club are forced to just sell for whatever they can get in the end.
Why would anyone not do this? If you're at a club where you want to take the next step, signing a new contract would be such a ridiculous move.
No, there is a difference between saying you won't be signing a new contract and pretending you may when you know you won't and leaving the club in a situation where they still believe they are negotiating with you in good faith until it gets to the point you either leave for an extremely cut price sale or just leave for free.

You'd rather they kicked up a fuss to get sold before the contract runs out? If the player develops quicker than the club they're perfectly within their rights to want to move just like we are with the likes of Mustafi or Xhaka.
I'm not talking about a player who decides he wants to leave. By all means if you want to leave just inform the club that you have no intention of staying and to either sell you or run your contract out. Now, I don't know the situation about Upa, but when it's saying contract has stalled, at this late stage, it feels to me that he wasn't looking to sign a contract in the first place and was just wasting the club's time during negotiations. It's not the leaving or wanting to leave I disagree with. It is how they go about doing so. From a player's perspective, I know why this would be beneficial, but doing so is not beneficial for the club.
