Hopefully not but I'd take slight improvement at the back as a good thing as long as we can score more goals. I still expect the defenders to be slated individually regularly on here.

I tend toward getting a top quality CB as main priority.
With goal scoring, manager sounds flexible enough to put together a solid offensive team.
Haven't felt so hopeful in years. At lease eight years, I dunno, I stopped counting.

It's so hard to get excited about the wishlist these days. For two reasons.

First, the more you look at our squad, the more aware you are that recruitment over the last 5 years was an absolute shambles, and even the noble efforts of our transfer super team will struggle to undo the damage. We have an old, unbalanced squad. I still don't understand how all the pieces fit together.

Second, watching Liverpool play football manager over the past 14 months has proven that a rapid squad turnaround is possible with conviction and investment. They've sold good players at the right times and replaced with exceptional talents. They have a young squad that can push City's young squad for the foreseeable future, while we watch our old men whither.

Is our squad that old? Without actually looking at it, instinctively I feel like we actually have a pretty young squad. I seem to recall we fielded one of the youngest sides for a long time at the back end of last season.

We also have genuine top level players in Auba, Ozil and Ramsey going forward, alongside other very good players like Laca and Mkhi. Nothing to turn your nose up at. I maintain Arsenal fans are spoiled.

I swear everyone gets a hard on over Liverpool every summer. Last season was the first time it paid off.

Our squad is anything but old, come on. Our attackers are around their peaks and should have a good three seasons of top performances in them, the rest goalie defence and midfield is basically sorted for the next five years at least. Xhaka Kola Bellerin Torreira Chambers and a couple more are all 25 or younger, Leno and Mustafi are 26. The backups are a bit older but replacing them with youngsters to ease in is a lot easier than replacing starters

Really Claude I struggle to see how one could be anything but optimistic for next season. We have a workaholic manager who breathes football as much as anyone and a bunch of professionals behind him who handle everything else, one of them being one of the best scouts in Europe. If all this doesn't cheer you up you probably need to start doing MDMA during Arsenal matches

Thanks for the perspective, Jones. In terms of age, I was looking at our best players, e.g, Ozil, Koscielny, Aubameyang, Mkhitaryan, etc. These players all need to win now. Hopefully, we can count Torreira amongst them very quickly, and Xhaka and Bellerin step up.

On squad composition, we are all still wondering how we will line up because it is not clear. Do we need a traditional wide man or do we deploy Aubameyang there? Are the midfield options sufficient? Same at central defense and right back? I wish I had a clearer view of what this squad is.

As for MDMA, if the period when we were conceding 5 every time we met Pool and Chelsea didn’t drive me to drink, then I should be fine.

i would take martial, but dont see Jose letting us buy from ManU this close to the start of the season. (whether or not it would be his choice is another matter). That said, dont see either one happening

Alternatively get Bailey on the left and Mkhi on the right to provide more vertical penetration, rather than having one side always looking to come inside?

Wonder if Dembele is an option with Barca having signed Malcom?

doubtful we would be stumping up the cash they would be looking for to get him. Barca signed him for 105 million and supposedly has a 400 million buyout clause. I can't possibly see this happening in this lifetime.
