This would obviously never happen for a bunch of reasons but, in the hypothetical situation where it did, that would probably be something like a £40-45 million net spend. We would still be fine with the homegrown rules because, unless I'm forgetting someone, then this would leave us with 15 over-21 non-homegrown players (counting Arteta, Rosicky and one of Diaby/Flamini) with only one under-21 player that would roll into that category in the future (Gaya). This would make us a bit better in the present and give the team much more upside in the future. If we're really serious about making it to the very top then we're still going to need to bet big on prospects. We just need to capture the highest tier of prospects.

Just go hard after Bale, Griezmann, or Reus. Get one of those guys and then you can think about other positions. Giroud, Sanchez, Ozil + new LW would be a scary attack

As much as i love Cazorla, i think he is the odd man out this summer in our midfield. Currently, he is forcing Ramsey out wide and while its not catastrophic in short term, it certainly cannot continue long term. Ramsey-Coq-Özil should be our starting midfield and on the right we should have Ox, or preferably an upgrade from transfer market (Reus).

Walcott can go in this scenario. Wilshere can stay as a Ramsey backup. We need to bin Flamini, Arteta can stay in the role Rosicky is in - will be a mature head in the dressing room and will play only when needed. All of this means that we need at least someone to compete with Coq, as i doubt we can find a clear upgrade on him.

Ospina is staying as no1, im sure of it and fine with it. Just bin Szczesny and get a mature backup.

We're fine in defence, as i dont believe we have any interest in buying a CB after buying Gabriel. Mertesacker sure aint going anywhere. I would prefer Gibbs out, Gaya in scenario, but i doubt he is interested in us. He would surely want to be a starter and Valencia is fine, until a spot in Barcelona/Real Madrid opens up.

So, our most pressing issue this summer is getting an RW who can produce similar numbers to Alexis, then a decent competition for Coq and then a mature replacement from Szczesny.

We could use a striker, midfielder and central defender. See what's available in the early stages of the transfer window and sign the best possible player we can, regardless of position. We're more in need of top quality than a particular position (out of those three). We should be looking at Hummels, Laporte, Marquinhos, Pogba, Veratti, Koke, Martinez, Reus, Cavani, Bale etc.

^^ What Kel said. For once (barring departures) we have a relatively complete squad. We need to be signing one or two difference makers in attack and defence.

Verratti would be my dream signing, but that's not going to happen. I reckon PSG would sell both Zlatan and Thiago Silva before they even entertained the idea of letting him go.

Is Depay any better than Chamberlain or Walcott? Wasn't overly impressed by him last summer and Reus and Bale are far better. Don't really see the point in signing players who won't really improve our first team. Same goes for Khedira who looks finished.

Tbh I haven't seen much of him, but I thought he was brilliant at the world cup. Powerful and stocky frame (like ox), good touch and technique, and a rocket of a shot on him. Superb numbers this season (albeit, in Holland), and he looked good on the 2 or 3 occasions that I've seen him this season.

Sanchez, Depay, Ox, Theo, would be a very good selection of wingers. Obviously someone like Reus, Bale, or Griezmann, would be better though.

Regarding Depay, I think he is well worth signing, even for a relatively high fee. He looks destined for stardom, and a big club is certain to snap him up this summer. At that point he is going to be out of reach for us.

I disagree completely. Theo, Ox, Depay, Ozil, Cazorla, Welbeck etc would give us a bunch of decent options out wide. We don't need any more ok players. We need proper quality that can significantly improve our first team. Adding a few more decent players will not improve us. Spend 70-90 mill on two, at most three, players and call it a day.

Depay is still a project, we have a couple of our own in Ox and Gnabry. Doubt we're interested.

I like your plan for the biggest signing of the summer but if that was for instance Griezman then I still want a good solid DM as well, even if he's not world class.

Despite his goals this season, I still don't think he is an elite player per say. Going to be a good player, but nothing more. He doesn't have much special things in his locker to me, and I have a sneaky feeling he is going to be Afellay level.

I think the Ajax boys have better talents there.

Reus, Gundogan, Hummels and Cech. Sell Theo, Podolski, Chesney, Jenkinson, Campbell.

Reckon that could be done at a net spend of around £60m-£70m. Hummels is also optional, could swap that for a DM or a good striker, though that might push the net spend up a bit.
