my stance on Wenger is softening.
even if he does not win this season, the end of this year would be the wrong time to break this team up, assuming they don't suddenly start to show the typical weaknesses we have seen in the past. if he can keep going and give us 75 to 80 points this season, then i am happy to let him build for next season with a few more players on board.

it wouldn't happen next season. he says he never breaks contracts (like wenger) and i think he's under contract for at least a couple more seasons after this one.

Who said anything about breaking up the team?
It's Wenger thats renowned for failing to hang on to players a new manager would surely hope to improve and enhance it.
If he fails to win anything with a team like this he is truly past it.
Having said that, it is obvious that there has been massive shift in his approach no one would have though possible, gone is the stupid naive pointless possession as a means of controlling the game and in place is a return to the pragmatic ruthlessness allied to flair that made his teams so successful before.
It does show the intelligence of the man that even at this later stage of his career that he can still adapt and change, so there is hope he may yet deliver again.

That is obviously not true, both Biggus and Lagos. Winning something in the most competitive league in the world with only one recognized striker, who obviously is NOT world class, is nothing short of admirable. We would obviously also be in a much stronger position to win something next season, IF that player joins.

Bar two players it's the exact same team we had last year. Tactics have been in place for the last three seasons or so.

i think people here are underestimating the quality of the Chelsea/Manchester City managers and teams. right now Chelsea is making wholseale changes game to game, and are keeping up in the league. this is going to benefit them from December onwards. you've seen Citeh of late. nothing to ignore. the surprise for me will be if we beat both clubs to position 1. not if Wenger doesn't win a trophy. Champs League is too much of a lucky thing for me. so must he definitely win FA Cup then?

That is exactly it, Claude. We have a few glaring holes in our squad, whereas those two teams have not. Saying we are poor for not winning it this season is well wide of the mark.

Why would it be his last chance? The squad in all likelyhood will be imporved upon in Jan and/or the summer, we're only going to improve. We shouldn't and won't have to rely on turbulance at other clubs.
