Are we naive vs the better teams?

Hmm. To be honest I'm more frustrated by how we've wasted our rare opportunity this season than by thoughts of building up our challenge in subsequent years.

Sudden internal conflicts aside, City and Chelsea will be in much better shape in the opening round next season. No one we sign can change that. At least Liverpool's lack of depth will tell against them once they're in the CL.

We'll have to see. People always assume Chrlsea and City and even Spurs are getting stronger. Chelsea will get a striker but Terry keeps getting older and they've relied on him this year. Plus they've had fuck all injuries compared to is and city.

Yeah, but it won't matter if we pick up a couple of decent players. Next season Chelsea will have a world class striker up front and a settled game plan—they'll be 5-10 points stronger than they have been this season.

@Qs sorry, that was in reply to the previous. I guess you're right—our rivals will have their own issues. Still think they'll get off to a much more coherent start next season though.

Chelsea's no striker issue is a myth anyway. Eto'o, Torres and Ba is a hell of a lot more than we have.

Ba is a proven league scorer who isn't given the minutes. They already have another one coming back in Lukaku.

Yarp, in 5 years Chelsea will be averaging 120-130 points a season easy.

I don't get Wenger's team selection yesterday. For over a year, Poldi has been left on the bench becuse he can't be trusted to start games. Many fans have complained about it, but after the past couple of months it's obvious why Poldi was being overlooked. And yet despite another poor showing against Spurs, Poldi starts against Chelsea? Ox in the midfield when we could have used him out wide to counter? I don't get it.

Don't get why gnabry isn't getting more game time. He was impressive earlier in the season

Gnabry should never be in consideration for a match of this caliber (this year). In hindsight neither should Ox or Cazorla in CM but that's not how we roll.

This season is a big waste but nothing will ever match our extravagance in the Eduardo leg break season. It's not just a big game issue. We aren't good enough across an entire season.

I said about a month ago that we would be lucky to be within 10 points of Chelsea this season. I still hold that to be true. Time and again, we have shown that we lack the physical and mental strength to sustain a season-long challenge. This is well proven year after year. Our 17 goals in 3 games is just a new twist from a manager who is always finding new ways to make the fans suffer

Our problems have nothing to do with mental strength. This is a resilient bunch. Were Barca suddenly mentally weak when they got ruined 7-0 by Bayern last year? No, most of those players won 2-3 Champions Leagues.

If Wenger stays then probably nothing will really change, although I do think he'll spend a fair bit this summer. If he goes then it's all change, the new gaffer has a blank canvas and IMHO plenty of quality raw materials to work with....and a load of cash and wages to throw at new players.

We'll just have to see.

Looked like they'd lost some hunger last year to me. Not surprising seen as they didn't really have a manager. That's a facet of mental strength.

Everyone knows that the way to beat Mourinho's teams is retain the ball with plenty of possession play a high line of defence and attack them with wild abandon, Barcelona show how it's done.

Except we did not retain the ball and we didn't attack them with wild abandon.
They attacked us, pressed us, forced the errors and were clinical finishing their chances.
