Top players believe in themselves, doubt he'd make the conservative choice.

He's pretty much certain to go to the world cup anyway, and Spain will do well. If Torres can win golden boots with Spain I reckon Costa will score a few, regardless of his form in the league from now onwards.

Yep, that's the rule in England, even if the player is free to talk to other clubs due to the Bosman ruling he can't talk to English clubs.

It's probably entirely illegal, but nobody has challenged it.

Must be on mega wages, close to €200k (£165k) per week. Assuming it's €200k:

€10.4m in wages per annum, €52m over the course of his 5 year contract.

Coupled with a big signing on fee + agent fees.

A total cost of €70m (£58m) over 5 years isn't that surprising.

Is there a chance we could make a move this January itself? It could be a Reyes kind of signing. He may have some impact on the pitch because he certainly has the quality but the excitement it could create might just keep us going.

It just confirms what I have said all along; there was NO written agreement between Lewandowski and Bayern. There was a verbal agreement though, which could never, ever be upheld in a court of law since the player was not allowed to make such an agreement. The player CHOSE to stick to this verbal agreement, but he didn't HAVE to do so.

I said all along that we should try to convince the player to come here, but in the end there was always the suspicion that he would go to Bayern.

Don't think anyone said there was a written agreement, surely that's illegal?

Wenger came out and said that he considered Lewa but he had made up his mind to join Bayern. Wenger obviously can't say that he tried to convince him to join Arsenal but I'm quite sure that we contacted, and were rebuffed by, his agent at some point.
