How so? Strikers role is to score goals. Do you mean to say Mandzukic is more effective for bayern because he allows their runners from midfield to run riot? That just means their system is more suited to the croatian. Gomez had a stunning record before he was shafted and I can't see how he is "half the player"
He got benched for a player who scored 12 goals the same season where he scored 41. Go figure.
Gomez was a complete donkey. Every single attack at Bayern had to end with him. He missed a ton of chances in every game before he finally socked one ball in the net. The final straw was when he cost them the Champions League final.
Mandzukic is simply a better player. He's a better striker and a more inventive footballer. He knows how to combine with others and provide angles. He's everything that Gomez isn't. They're a much more versatile side now.
