Would say Arteta replacement but he's going to be 28 in January.

22m is too much but he would be a good signing at around 15m. We don't need a super long-term replacement for Arteta, we can train Cabaye at the position over the course of next season while he serves as CM depth and play him there the next couple years until Wilshere and Ramsey have the necessary intelligence and maturity to form a midfield duo.

I think there is a very real chance we will go after him. Though Ramsey's injury 'kinda' pushes his price up.

Personally i think we should absolute go for him. Classy CM with easily 3-4 years at top level in him.

Our table position makes this jan very different and i am hoping wenger prioritizes the first team squad over 'value/future potential' signings.

CM is the least of our worries for me.

It would make more sense if we didn't have Flamini already but we do. Good player though. He's among the top 5 central midfielders in Premier League when he can be arsed.

I think Wenger last summer saw Cabaye as a better option than Flamini, but only if the price was right. In the end he went with Flamini on a free transfer instead of forking out in the region of £20m for Cabaye. Very, very difficult to hold that against him IMO.

Personally, I only feel we should go for another CM in the next year or so if a truly special player becomes available at a decent price. Cabaye is nowhere near good enough for the type of player I have in mind.

We only really need an upgrade on Giroud in January. Rest can wait until summer.

I still believe we need an upgrade on Arteta. Cabaye isn't an upgrade though. Also, striker should definitely be the priority.

Arteta's upgrade, if we are looking for one should be someone in the exact same mould, but quicker and stronger on the ball.

Cabaye is more of a summer signing for me - don't see the urgency in getting him. Lowball Newcastle in january then come back with a respectful summer bid.

Bruno Soriano is quality. Bit too old IMO though, I'd like someone in the 24-28 range.

I wonder could he be an alternative option for both Arteta and Ramsey? He's not the most athletic in the world but he would probably be a better replacement for Ramsey than anything we currently have in the squad.
