The problem is that 1 Costa equals around 30 Michus in today's market. £30 million would give us one of his arms at a stretch.

Spanish release clauses don't work like English ones unfortunately. Costa would have to buy out his contract himself in order to activate it. The common scenario is that the selling club will just accept the money offered if it matches the release clause and the player wants to go, but not if they have zero interest in actually letting him leave. In that case the tax ramifications are a whole lot more complicated. This is why United screwed up the Herrera deal this summer.

Our best bet is probably to offer them more money than the clause and hope for the best. Still can't see them letting him go when they have a genuine shot at the league though.

Atletico won't reject a 50m bid though surely? They had to sell Falcao even for 47m.

They had no say in the Falcao transfer though. He wasn't their player. He was owned by third-party investors. Atletico didn't get any of the money.

Don't watch Monaco but I've been told by a couple of people that he's been rubbish there. Probably unhappy.

Culture shock probably, only playing in front of a crowd of less than 10k every week. Must be shocking for him.
